Tips for Submissions

Stakeholder submissions are first reviewed by the PDIC (Plan Design Information Committee), which makes the initial determination as to whether further review and analysis is required. There are five separate sections in the submission form, designed to provide room for standardized descriptions for any proposal.

Characteristics of successful submissions:

  • All sections completed in full.
  • Proposal does not contravene legislation/regulatory restrictions.
  • Section 2, “Proposed change(s) to current provision” – is clear and concise. (If necessary, provide examples or contact the SC office for assistance.)
  • The rationale provides a compelling reason for an SC Member to bring the proposal forward and takes into consideration economic conditions and the current financial position of the plans.

The SC considers a number of proposals every year, and generally speaking, only a few actually end up being approved by a two-thirds majority. There are many factors the SC considers when weighing proposals, with the long-term health and viability of the Plans being paramount.

The PDIC informs the rest of the SC of stakeholder submissions at meetings held in January, February and March; any SC Member may bring forward stakeholder proposals in March or April for consideration by the SC.
