OMERS Employees Take Part, Give Back

June 02, 2010
TORONTO (June 2, 2010) - Employees of OMERS, one of Canada's largest pension plans, are marking the approach of summer with a major community volunteering effort.

Over six days in early June, more than 350 employees of OMERS and its investment entities will team up with nine different community agencies and charitable organizations to help complete a wide range of projects encompassing more than 2,000 hours of community work. The volunteer days are called "Take Part, Give Back."

The nine agencies are: High Park Nature Centre, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Artscape, Daily Bread Food Bank, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Humewood House, St. Christopher House, Momiji Health Care Society and Toronto Zoo.

OMERS employees will be rolling up their sleeves to help improve the lives of hundreds of Torontonians by maintaining and building gardens, serving meals, sorting food, painting and putting on a themed lunch for seniors.

"OMERS employees recognize that there is a need in our community and they are stepping up by donating their skills and time to provide support," said Michael Nobrega, President and CEO of OMERS, which was recently named a Top 50 Employer in Canada for the second consecutive year by Hewitt Associates. "We are honoured to work with these diverse agencies to serve the community."
